Mannatech Offers Tips to Stay Healthy During the Holiday Rush

Dr. Rob Sinnott offers advice for creating healthy holidays

Coppell, Texas, December 17, 2008 - With only a week left to wrap up holiday shopping, plan and prepare the big meal, and get the house ready for guests, consumers can easily run themselves down with stress. Even more, a lot of people catch a cold from all of the germs that are spread while shopping, cooking and socializing.

“We all run ourselves down during the holidays,” said Robert A. Sinnott, MNS, PhD, chief science officer and senior vice president for Mannatech, Incorporated (NASDAQ - MTEX). “We have more stress, less time and a lot more to do. The immune system is also more susceptible when shopping and socializing with more people than normal. It’s important to take care of ourselves during December, it’s what I call ‘healthy holidays’.”

Dr. Sinnott shares the following tips to keep spirits up and remain healthy for a happy holiday with friends and family. These tips also work well with Mannatech’s proprietary Optimal Health products, Optimal Skin Care line and Optimal Weight and Fitness products.

  1. Don’t rush meals. While running around to work, school and shopping leaves little time for healthy eating, avoid hitting the drive-thru. Take the time before you start your day to eat a healthy breakfast and prepare nutritious snacks and meals. This could be as simple as peanut butter toast and blueberries in the morning, and nuts and carrot sticks throughout the day. Fast food has little nutritional value and can contain thousands of calories. Taking an extra half hour to prepare your meals will keep yourself and your family healthy, while also avoiding extra weight gain.
  2. Shop safely. Managing kids, a dozen shopping bags and your purse can do a number on your back, and make you an easy target for thieves. If you have a lot of shopping to do during one trip, go organized. Wear comfortable clothes, especially shoes. Bring a purse that can hang across your body, rather than on one shoulder, and use a stroller or rent a mall shopping cart to hold shopping bags. If you’re planning a full day of shopping, be sure to eat healthy snacks and stretch throughout the day.
  3. Wash your hands frequently. Most people are moving around so much during the holiday commotion, they don’t consider all of the germs they run across. This is dangerous because we’re coming in contact with so many people right in the middle of flu season. Anytime you exchange money, shake a hand, eat or drink, sneeze or touch your mouth, remember to use hand sanitizer or wash your hands. The number of airborne bacteria in malls is enormous. Protect yourself and your family this season.
  4. Hydrate your skin. With cold and dry air, as well as the use of more hot water, the winter months mean dry, itchy skin for most people. Remember to drink an abundance of water throughout the day and protect your skin with products that focus on hydrating.
  5. Take your vitamins. While taking a nutritional supplement is a great way to add a few extra nutrients to your diet, it can be so much more during the winter months when your body is fighting to keep your immune system strong.

In addition to practicing these tips, incorporating healthy dietary supplements and skin care products, can help consumers keep their energy up during the holiday season. Mannatech’s range of quality dietary supplements, skin care and weight and fitness products that support these tips include:
