Drs. Danny and Helen Sun
There may be no better example of an integrative wellness approach than that practiced by Drs. Danny and Helen Sun. Their two-physician household includes a surgeon specializing in plastic surgery (Danny) and a family practice physician (Helen).
A plastic surgeon, Danny said he was often frustrated by an inability to help many patients, especially those most in need of his skills. “Patients tell me I am a very unusual doctor because although I’m a surgeon, I spend a lot of time talking to patients and coaching them. I often talk them out of surgery. Rather than advising surgery, I tell people that for surgery to be most effective, the conditions have to be right and their health has to be good,” said Danny.
After being introduced to Mannatech, the Suns decided the best way to find out about the products was to try them and share them with family members. Helen shared Mannatech products with her mother and they were delighted with the results. Both Helen and Danny then began using Mannatech products in their practices. Helen’s father, who had been a practicing physician in their native Taiwan for more than 50 years, now refers others to Helen when she is in Taiwan.
“People would ask about what they should take to maintain optimal health,” says Helen. “Before Mannatech, I really had no specific recommendation. But once I found out about the company, I had a tool I could tell people about. After a while, people began bringing others to my office. They wanted me to tell them about Mannatech. My office began to get more and more crowded. Finally, I had to decide whether I wanted to keep dealing with people who didn’t want to follow my advice, or work with people who were looking for change. It’s not an easy decision to give up a medical practice, but that’s what I did. I closed my practice so that I could share Mannatech full-time.”
The Suns are able to do many things they couldn’t do before Mannatech. “There’s no question that Mannatech allows us to do more for others as well as to travel a great deal more than we ever could otherwise,” says Danny. “We go back to Taiwan frequently. We have a lot of friends and contacts there, and we have built a solid organization. It’s wonderful to be able to share Mannatech and know we are helping so many people.”*
